The latest news coming from Punjab is while addressing a press conference on Monday, November 08, 2021 – famous comedian & politician Navjot Singh Sidhu assailed the government for the implied inaction in sacrilege cases. This comes 2 days after Charanjit Singh Channi (Chief Minister of Punjab) assured speedy action against the faulty individuals in the sacrilege cases and those behind the drug menace.
Targeting the Advocate General Amar Preet Singh Deol, Sidhu cried while recalling that no charge sheet had been filed even a half year after appointing another Special Investigation Team in the Kotkapura case.
Pointing to Advocate General Amar Preet Singh Deol once more, Sidhu questioned about the postponement in filing a Special Leave Petition against the bail permitted to former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini. Then, taking a veiled dig at Charanjit Singh Channi, Navjot Singh Sidhu recapitulates his clamor to craft the report against the drugs mafia. According to him, no court had restricted the state government from releasing the report in the public domain.
Responding to Sidhu’s nonstop assaults, Deol gave a statement on November 06 blaming the former for deterring the working of the public authority. In addition, he alleged that the Punjab Congress president proliferated “misinformation” about blasphemy cases and the drugs matter to acquire a political benefit over his political colleagues. He additionally asserted that the AG’s constitutional office was being targeted to malign Congress in view of the forthcoming election.
Well, this war of words has not ended here. On Sunday, November 07, Mr. Sidhu said: Mr. AG-Punjab, justice is visually impaired, but not individuals of Punjab. Our party came to drive with a vow to give equity in sacrilege cases, in which you showed up under the steady gaze of the High Court for accused individuals/main culprit and made a serious accusation against our Govt.
Currently, you are a representative of the same Govt. of the same political party in power and blaming me for spreading falsehood, though I am requesting justice in blasphemy cases, and you were obtaining cover bails for the denounced people,” Sidhu said in another tweet.
After all these tweets, the breaking news coming from Punjab is that Charanjit Singh Channi has accepted APS Deol’s resignation from the position of Advocate-General.
The vacancy will be filled within the very next day, he said.
The CM of Punjab also said a list of replacements for this vacant post currently held by Iqbal Singh Sahota and had been forwarded to the center.
Navjot Singh Sidhu wanted Mr. Sahota and Mr. Deol – both designated by Chief Minister Channi – to be sacked over the 2015 police firing and sacrilege case.
His renunciation came as a shock to the Congress, especially since the Gandhis had upheld him in his unpleasant altercation with Mr. Singh, driving the still-compelling ex-Chief Minister to quit and set up his own party – something that will positively stress the party in front of the political race.
